Earth day is coming this Friday and there are lots of local events taking place. Here is just a sampling of them:

Biscayne Nature Center Earth Day – Ghost Bird Documentary Friday, April 22, 2011 – 6pm sharp Refreshments, childrens activities

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION The Barnacle Historic State Park April 17, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Celebrate all things green at The Barnacle. Booths will feature green businesses and local environmental groups. There will be environmental activities for the kids. Bring your own picnic, or buy burgers, hot dogs, and veggie dogs here. Acoustic music will be provided by local favorite Lenny Batista between noon and 3 pm.

EarthFest at Crandon Park April 17, 2011. Noon to Sundown
Fun for the whole family with hands-on nature workshops, organic and vegetarian food, EcoAdventure Tram Tours and nature walks, and a Kids Corner. Families can bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the outdoor concerts, and any electronics and computer equipment for recycling. Parking at Crandon Park is $6.

Earth Day at Fairchild–Free Admission Friday, April 22, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM Where: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Piola, a health-oriented Italian chain with locations at 1250 S. Miami Ave., 1625 Alton Rd., and 1703 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd., will celebrate Earth Day Tuesday through April 23 with a menu showcasing produce from the Roots in the City’s community garden, with 10 percent of proceeds benefiting the Overtown nonprofit. Everyone who eats at a South Florida Piola during the five-day celebration will receive a bag of seeds with planting instructions;

Area 31 at the Epic Hotel, 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way, features a five-course, organic Earth Day dinner menu Monday through April 22 by executive chef E. Michael Reidt for $55, with wine pairings available for an additional $35; 305-424-5234,

Zoo Miami Party for the Planet – April 16 – 17, 2011 During Party for the Planet, guests can come in free of charge if they turn in a cellphone as part of our ECO-CELL phone recycling program.
